Lost my discipline, quit maintaining my blog. What’s changed since my last entry? I have new classes on the books at work, including a first look workshop on Windows 7, and an updated version of the Security+ course, which was retooled by CompTIA last year. My daughters’ had good basketball campaigns, and both did well in their end-of-season tournaments. Right now, I’m watching KU hopefully earn a berth in the Sweet 16 (up by 12, 6:30 to play).
I’ll have more later…
Got some things done today, but as one would expect, not nearly as much as I would’ve liked to. I had planned on working on some songs/chord progressions today, but I was happy to have a little noodle time with the guitars. TIme for bed, but I needed to try and write something.
G’night.
Let me start off by saying that I consider myself to be fiscally conservative and, on many levels, socially liberal. I go to church, I’m not a big fan of abortion, but gay marriage doesn’t bother me. I didn’t vote for President Obama, but then again, I didn’t vote for McCain either.
I was a bit put off by an editorial I read in WorldNetDaily. The editor of the site suggested that the Christian Conservative thing to do was to pray for Barack Obama’s administration to fail. That’s not the kind of Christian I want to be. Even when I disagree with the policies being enacted by the politicians that represent me, I’m not going to pray for their failure.
What I will do is pray that they weigh all sides of a dilemma and make wise choices. There were many times during the Bush administration that I prayed for our leaders to see the error of their ways and pursue more altruistic solutions to our problems.
Maybe I ought to be prayin’ for the people that pray for bad things to happen to our leaders. Obviously, their wisdom is flawed as well.
Yeah, I’m on facebook, now. Funny thing is, I recently watched the BBC series “The IT Crowd”, Season3, Episode 5, regarding a fictional social website called “FriendFace”.
Yeah, it’s kind of like that.
I’m a fan of the StumbleUpon service/toolbar, and randomly hitting sites can be a bit addictive. I have a wide-variety of interests, and the next five things I hit using StumbleUpon will demonstrate this:
1. Johnny Cash’s Deputy Credential’s. Guess this goes under the wierd internet stuff category. I knew Elvis had been deputized, but I never knew Johnny Cash had been. Kind of surprising after he shot that man in Reno just to see him die.
2. The Safe Bedside Table. Oooooh… just what everybody ought to have for household defense - a bedside table that breaks down into a shield and club. Particularly useful if Visigoths & Huns come breaking into your home in the middle of the night demanding the keys to Rome.
3. Sperm-powered Nanobots. Apparently some scientists somewhere think that the way to power nanobots placed inside the body is to capture the energy held captive in male sperm. I guess this means that the fabulous future created by nanotechnology will be a men-only club.
4. Some picture from deep space. I’m fascinated by our universe, and some of the pictures from the European Space Agency and the Hubble Telescope are incredible.
5. Cosmic Voyage - A Scientific Discovery of Extraterrstrials Visiting Earth. A web site dedicated to the research of Courtney Brown, PhD, who believes that we have been visited repeatedly by extraterrestrial life forms and humanity has an ongoing relationship with these life forms. Hey, it’s interesting. I’m hoping that juts one of these guys that writes about visitation and our place in a universe teeming with life.
OK, 5 sites. Interesting… I should do this type of blog entry again sometime.
January is typically a slower time for technical training. Alot of companies have new hardware in place that needs to be installed and configured, so it isn’t always the best time for staff to take classes. This month is going give me an opportunity to prep some new classes and get a few personal matters out of the way. I might even get out into the garage and get a little guitar work done. I’d like to build a new stand for my effects - those things are getting in the way a little more than I’d like.
She’s a professional, and a mom. I see it in her eyes everytime her work takes her out of town - she hates every moment away from the kids. I’m a grown up, and a little time away from me isn’t as big a deal, but when she has to head to the airport for a couple of days of reviewing grants or attending a conference, I can see the hurt. It juts reminds me that much more that I’m a very lucky man to have met her.

OK, time to get my snoring wife off the couch and into bed.
“Compliment a Complete Stranger Day”. Tell somebody you like their shoes, their smile, their car, their ensemble. If you see some kid trying out a guitar lick in a muc store, tell ‘em they play pretty good.
Open your mind to the possibilities. There’s any number of things you can say to somebody to bring a smile to their face.*
*This does not mean that you tell an attractive young lady that she has a cute butt or a great rack. Use some good taste, please.
